It was many years ago that I first heard Beverly Sills sing in Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment. The only reason I heard that opera was because my friend Harold told me to shut up and just listen to it. That’s when I fell in love with Donizetti and with the voice of the opera legend. I have a lot of recordings of her singing with that beautiful voice she had.

I woke up this morning to learn she had passed away last night. I knew she was gravely ill, and I knew it was coming. But that does not negate the fact that the opera world has lost one of the most incredible gifts given to us by God. I prayed for her, that she finds peace and joy in Heaven.

Now we only have the recordings of her voice. Those shall never die and in that way she remains immortal. Farewell Beverly…bravo and well done!
