The book is done!

I started writing the sequel to my first book, “Calevan and Thoninas”, in late March 2007. Now two months later it is finally done. The last chapter, chapter 19, was completed this morning. Now begins the long process of reviewing and correcting. There may also be a few small revisions to some sections. But the bulk of the work is done and the story is, in my opinion, absolutely awesome!

Once I have completed the review, correction and revision stage, the text will go on to be laid out and typeset by my friend Houston, who did my first book. He did a great job!

That process will take a few weeks and so I expect the book to go into print sometime in late June or early July. So stay tuned!

Aren’t you supposed to be working?

Hellz no! Me and my friend Lee at the office, goofing off and havin’ fun! Cuz I need the fun these days. I was talkin’ on my blackberry when he stopped by to annoy me and ended up having his picture taken.

Book No. 2 Almost Done!

Well my second book, which is a sequel to my first book, is almost done. While I didn’t get a chance to work on it much this past weekend, I am confident that it will be completed and ready for review, revise and correct in about a week. In the meantime I have started gathering up some of the pieces that I did while writing the book, pieces relating to the cover design. I originally had planned to put the main character (Calevan) on the cover in both of his forms, pre-resurrected and post. But I decided to go with another design. But the sketches I made I want to include in the book. So I grabbed one of the sketches, done by hand with pencil, and scanned it in so that it can be included.

Here is that sketch…

You can see a bigger version on my graphic arts portfolio site.

I will be posting more hand-drawn sketches in the coming week.

Lonliness is my shadow

Lonliness is my shadow,
its darkness looms over me,
the rain falls and the skies are gray,
my life is so desolate.

I see couples kissing in the park,
my heart cries out, jealousy fills me,
why am I destined to walk alone,
on the empty street of life.

My heart overflows with love,
for there is no-one to give it to,
every day I have prayed to God above,
to turn this desert into a garden.

Yes, a desert, that is my life,
barren and empty,
alone and scorched,
won’t someone save me from this cruel fate?

I mourn for myself,
a soul cursed to wander,
so alone,
abandoned,
forsaken,
empty,
stranded on this island,
deserted,
with only my shadow.

Can you say depressed?

I dunno what it is, but within the past 48 hours I have just begun to feel depressed. I feel tired, lonely and my thoughts dwell on my father who is going through chemo and my sister who remains in a semi-vegetative state. I am not particularly happy with my job, my boss annoys me to no end and she just adds to the negativity I feel.

I dunno maybe it’s just one of those slumps everyone goes through once in a while. But considering how much I seem to be reflecting on my life and how I have accomplished so little, how I am still single and have had no luck finding that special someone…

Mid-life crisis.

I am glad this weekend is a 3-day weekend. I think I will just curl up in a little ball and sleep. Maybe after a good recharge I will feel better.

Maybe.

Tango wins! (sort of)

Well Tango was in her first show today and won the 12-18 month bitch class at the AKC Mattponi Dog Show. She won primarily because she was the only one in that class…so she won by default. But as my friends and fellow Whippet show buddies tell me, the win was a real one and I deserved it after all the hard work I had put into Tango’s show training.

Next time we will have some competition and we will OWN THEM!!! RRRAAAWWWR!! (kidding)

Here’s a photo of me all decked out and Tango (oh and some Cletus walking behind me)….

Whoa! Been way too busy!

I see I have been neglecting my poor blog here. Over the past 3 weeks I have been swamped with things. I am, as you may know, working on the sequel to my first book. That is eating up a TON of my time (and sleep). I am also working on a t-shirt design for a photographer friend of mine, getting my dog Tango ready for her show debut, dealing with these ear infections because of my allergies and above all else just dealing with my day to day stuff. Yeah, lots of excuses.

The new book is coming along great! I am really excited about it, the story is really rich and has a lot of surprises in store for the climax. I am about 80% finished with it…but even if it were done today, I would need to spend at least a couple weeks reviewing it, correcting stuff and making minor tweaks and revisions. I am telling the people who are interested in it that it should be ready to hit the presses in late June/early July. I can’t wait to publish it, it’s just an awesome story. It’s also going to be no less than three times larger than my first book. So a lot more to read.

This weekend is Tango’s show debut at the AKC Mattaponi Dog Show in Manassas. Am I nervous? Meh, maybe a little. No sense being nervous until Saturday morning. But I feel we are both ready to go. I have one more class before the show, so we’ll brush up on any loose ends then.

Last, but not least, I had an MRI last Friday to try and pin down what is causing my dizziness and ear problems. I had a really bad vertigo attack about a week ago and since then my Ear, Nose and Throat doctor has shown concern. He wants to make sure there’s nothing bad going on in my head before trying some treatments. Needless to say, this being my first MRI in my life…if I can avoid it in the future, I will. It was rather un-nerving. But I fought off my claustrophobic feelings (I am not claustrophobic, but that thing sure makes you feel like it), closed my eyes and focused on pleasant thoughts. LOL!!! I will find out in about a week what the results are.

In the meantime, I will try not to neglect my poor blog. More to come!
